SHELTOWEE RIDE 95 other opportunity to dance. Over seven thousand dollars were collected from the auction, and this will allow the ride to continue to charge the same fee. Thursday, October 4: Sixty-four (64) brave souls left camp to tackle Mammoth Cave's most challenging ride, McCoy Hollow. The greatest obstacle facing participants was a large boulder that horses are required to climb over. All returned safely. The evening meal was a special treat—a chuck wagon meal. One of the cooks entertained guests with cowboy poetry accom- panied by a guitar. Following the entertainment was a solemn time when deceased riders were remembered. This memorial service has become an annual event for the Sheltowee. Friday, October 5: Riders were greeted with another beautiful day. In fact the weather all week was perfect. Sixty (60) riders were promised that the ride would return to camp by 12:30 p.m. Friday's ride is always short because some participants need to leave early to travel great distances to their homes (California, Utah, Arizona, Vermont, etc.). After a dinner of barbecued ribs, the 50/50 drawing provided the winner, Vicki Smith, former ApHC board member from Ver- mont, $300 in cash. Kevin Davis, the camp owner, was a most gracious host. The meals he provided featured steaks, barbecued ribs, pot roast, deli- cious homemade pizzas, Salisbury steak, and grilled chicken over aAfter being served another delicious hot breakfast on Saturday morning, all riders had in their posession a tee shirt, a beautiful Sheltowee pin, and a calendar for 2019 containing many pictures from the previous year's ride provided by Patience Reagan.
