greener pastures 30 Appaloosa Journal December 2018 Bar I Mighty Royal 1985-2018 t is with deep regret that I inform the Appaloosa Horse Club of the passing of Mighty Royal Bar, "Bear." Bear was one of the last appaloosas out of the Mighty Marshall line, owned and shown by past ApHC CEO Roger Klam- oth of Groveport, Ohio, back in the early '70s. Bear's bloodlines go all the way back to the Peaveys and the Old Gray Mare. He was the epitome of the Appaloosa Breed, and a very loyal horse and friend. He did everything he was ever asked to do with pride and gave his all in everything. We had a long show career. He competed extensively back in the '90s up until in to the early 2000s in the open show cir- cuits and always took top honors in just about all of his classes. A versatile horse, he could be at the showgrounds one day and out on the trail the next. He was retired at a fairly early age due to suspensory issues but he was still used for walk/trot and gave our grandchildren their first rides and start in horses. I've watched over my old friend for over 24 years. We had been through a lot over time. A lot of happiness and some sad- ness; we truly had a strong bond and were a great team. I can't thank Jim and Anne Koch of Koch Show Horses in Ashtabula, Ohio (back then avid members of the ApHC) for letting me ac- quire this horse many years ago. He truly was the best horse anyone could have. He will be greatly missed by our family, but we know that we were so very blessed to have him in our lives for as long as we did. He is laid to rest on the property where he will be remembered the most. We know he is in a better place now. Rest in Peace my old, dear friend. Until we meet again you will always be in our hearts. —Kathy Ryan
