134 Appaloosa Journal September 2018 Trainer of the Year T Last Minic M The The last George Minic Memorial Award for Most colorful at Halter was presented by Mary Lou Minic this year ary Lou has manned the ApHC Information Booth these past decades and since the passing of her husband, George, she has presented a customized trophy in his honor to the winner of the Most Colorful at Halter class at the National Show. She is retiring, as is the award. In a heartwarming and tearful cer- emony among friends, family, and fans Mary lou was presented with gifts of appreciation for her many years of service to the breed — and she presented the last George Minic Memorial award to A Wild Card, led by Dave Parlier and owned by Iron Horse Ranch. Congratulations to Terry Sartain, Sadler, TX he coveted Trainer of the Year award originated in 1993 when Lew Eklund and Jack Stewart purchased a bronze of Chief Joseph, created by then ApHC Director Mary Ann Barrington, to use as a perpetual trophy. The award rec- ognizes outstanding trainers for their impact on the Appa- loosa industry. Nominees must earn a majority of their income from training Appaloosa horses, must participate at both the National and World shows for the year honored; must exhibit superior horsemanship skills, good sportsmanship and a friendly, positive attitude; and must promote the Appaloosa breed.
